A pearl is known to be a gem of great value.  It is the only gem that is created within a living being.  It can also be defined as a person or thing of great rarity, and worth.

Matthew 13:45-46 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,  who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and brought it.” We are of great value to God.  His grace which he has bestowed upon us has indeed raised our value.
